Now We're Going to Party Like It's....2012.

Well, it has started, 2012 is upon us and 2 days in. This is going to be the year of experimenting, no not that way. First, I have started a new hobby, I know the guys at Armadillo Ale Works are scared, but I have started my first batch of home brewed beer, compliments of my sister, thanks sis. I have always wanted to try, never had the funds or where to start, it was fun.

I know I cheated a little, it was my first time and wanted to get the process down. I covered it with my Guinness shirt in hopes that it would help (I don't think it will). I will keep everyone posted on this.

Second, I have started back to get out and about, Vigne Wine is a new place that I have tried with some friends, wonderful time and the owner is very friendly. Nice times when you are wanting something different and a little more elegant, yet not where it makes you feel uncomfortable. There has been some new wines I have tried, they are very good and available there, but let them know what you like and you will be pleasantly surprised. They also have a great selection of beers, oddities even I was not aware of.

Third, I will promise this year to be a little more interesting and posting more to let you know about new things to try, you can live vicariously through me or help me and let me know what you have found by commenting when applicable. Post on the Denton City Nights Facebook of places and new things you have tried, I am looking forward to more input this year from you guys. Please feel free to do so. I have been trying this and been unsuccessful. I hope this is the year it will come around.

So, happy new year, I hope everyone had a good and safe new year's eve, and hope everyone has a prosperous new year. Remember, get out there and experience Denton and all it has to offer.

Our House, In the Middle of Our ... Our House It Has a Crowd

Well, this time my adventures were interesting, I was woken up to pounding on my door, I then opened and was immediately whisked (yes, whisked) away by my friends to the Texas State Fair. As anyone knows, when you proceed to go to the state fair, you leave any kind of health conscious diet at the front entrance. With every vendors idea that something can be fried, I saw chicken fried bacon (I love bacon but my arteries and heart were screaming at me), I decided that fried peanut butter and jelly and fried pizza were in order. This is where the the difference between boys and men are decided, yea, didn't quite get to the man up stage in the eating, I could not finish the HUGE pizza that was bathed in grease.

So, I did see some interesting things as well at the state fair. One item of interest for you music lovers was a little device called a boombox, this device was a speaker, no ordinary speaker, you plug it in to a normal headset jack and then stick this to any bucket, box, cup, bowl to then create a speaker out of it. The innovative thought of you bringing your music wherever you go is now reality kids, wait, it always has, but now you can have speakers that are anywhere, and it does work well. The salesman stated he would actually stick it on his tub in the hotel, yea, he got noise complaints.

To end the night, I went up to karaoke at Public House (Tuesdays @ 10p, come and have fun). There I am always having fun. The bartenders and staff are fun, they like to be involved and have a good time as well. Tanya and the rest of the guys took care of me and all my 100 plus other friends there as well last night. You can always have a good time and a good music there on Tuesdays with DJ Paul Andrews kiking off a good karaoke night.

So, what I learned yesterday is one, fried foods hate me along with frito pie, and not a great idea to go on rides afterwards. Two, karaoke will always end a night well. Three, there is some cool stuff at the fair no matter how old you are. Hope everyone has a great week and get out to the fair, go Texas, Hook 'Em Horns.

And as always, tip your bartenders and servers, they are awesome and deserve something.

You Hooligans, Get Off My Lawn!!!

Just kidding, love you guys. I had a great time at Hooligan's on the square. This place is great, I want to shout out to my bartender who is workin' for the weekend, thanks Mandy, you were awesome and kept me feeling like I was part of the crowd. When you walk into Hooligan's you have two options, upstairs or downstairs, the upstairs is relaxing with two lounge areas and two pool tables, there are some tables to just sit and reeeelaxxx. If you have a smart phone, you can download the Buzztime Trivia App and play along, and there are TV's that show it and see how you are doing against your friends.

Then there is the downstairs, a little more hustle and bustle, but fun none the less. The bartenders will take care of you, you can pick some good cheesy music (this is a little local secret), and see if you have the best song. There is a lot more to this place, with a pub feel with a great time to be had, go out and have some fun. I also will say, the menu there is real good, the fried pickles are some of the best, props to the cooks who can make that right.

To sum up, go out to Hooligans, for a good time and some good drinks and food. The people are great and the atmosphere is wonderful. No matter who you are, you are bound to have some fun if you are looking for a different place.

School's Back from Summer!

Sorry, had to change it around a little. For all you Dentonites out there, there are some great places to go and things to do still, even on the weekend. I know that there are times that you get bored and tired of the same old routine, here are a list of interesting things you can do:

  1. Check Midway Mart and find out how many different craft beers there are and try a new one out..
  2. Go to Beth Marie's and make a new flavor out of what they currently have.
  3. Try the Guiness Ice Cream at The Abbey Inn
  4. On Wednesdays, try to see if you can out sing and perform at Andy's with karaoke, on the main stage
  5. Check out Metzler's on Londonderry for good Barbeque.
  6. Go to Riprocks and count how many cell phones there are on the wall.
  7. Check out RT's and see if you can find out the exact length of the bar. If you want an extra challenge, see if you can figure out the area. Plus, get some lunch there. Great food.
  8. Find out which bar has the smallest bar. (I think I know this one)
  9. Try one of the Taquillarias here in town.
  10. See if you can get a message up on one of the Frenchy's Trucks.
  11. Find out about the Morrison's Corn-Kits sign history.
  12.  Count how many businesses start and shut down in the Golden Triangle Mall
This should give all you guys some extra things to think about this year and just some interesting tidbits about Denton, TX. And good luck to all the students, new and returning.

The Weekend

School is starting up and Denton has doubled in population. I will now have trouble finding a seat, getting a beer and finding space on the dance floor. But enough of my issues, this weekend I did a few things, Saturday night me and a friend went to Rockin' Rodeo and Electric Cowboy, great place if you want to go out and get your cowboy boots out and scoot around the dance floor. If you are looking for some fun and a good time, both are great, Rockin' Rodeo is good for the live music, I know Johnny Cooper is coming on Sept. 15th, so go and see him, one of my favorite up and coming Texas music artists.

Also, went to Chuy's, one of the new restaurant additions in Denton, wow, now that is a place to go, love the bright decor, salsa and chip bar, the food; which I only had an appetizer, is one of the best tex-mex places in town. I still have yet to have a main course there, but if the appetizers are the intro to the meal, I am wanting to see the main event.

I know it has been a while since I posted, so, I would like to encourage everyone to have fun, get out there, and your servers and bartenders are working hard for you, they work for your tips, so, always tip.
